Furniture Maintenance And Care
Feb 19, 2026
Different materials require different maintenance methods to extend their lifespan and maintain their appearance. Here are some key points for maintaining common furniture materials:
Wooden Furniture Maintenance
Avoid Extreme Environments:
Wooden furniture is susceptible to cracking from dryness and mold from dampness. Keep it away from heat sources such as radiators and air conditioner vents, and avoid placing it in basements or damp areas too close to walls. The ideal environment is a temperature of 18–24℃ and humidity of 40%–60%.
Prevent Direct Sunlight:
Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause wood to fade and crack, especially high-end woods such as mahogany and oak. It is recommended to use curtains or blinds to block strong sunlight.
Cleaning and Care:
Dust daily with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using a damp cloth to prevent moisture penetration and swelling/deformation.
Wax the wood or use a professional furniture care oil (such as a product containing natural orange oil) once a quarter. This will nourish the wood and form a protective layer.
Waxing and Care:
Scratches can be filled with a crayon that matches the color of the furniture, and then gently wiped smooth.
