Determining if furniture edge banding is proper involves a systematic inspection from multiple dimensions, including flatness, tightness, craftsmanship details, and environmental friendliness. Edge banding is not only an aesthetic issue but also directly affects the furniture's moisture resistance, durability, and formaldehyde release control, especially important in humid environments such as kitchens and bathrooms.

 

Visual Inspection: Observe the smoothness and flatness of the edge banding.

Surface Flatness: The joint between the edge banding strip and the board should be smooth and without waves, with no obvious bumps or bulges. You can run your hand along the edge banding to feel for any "jamming" or "jumping."

Color and Texture Matching: The color and texture of the edge banding strip should match the panel, with no obvious color difference or breaks. Especially when observed at a distance of 50cm under natural light, there should be no visual jarring.

Is the Glue Line Visible?
On light-colored boards, a black glue line may appear between the edge banding and the board surface; on dark-colored boards, a white glue line may be visible. The finer and more uniform the adhesive lines, the more precise the adhesive application process. Thick, irregular adhesive lines may indicate problems with the EVA edge-sealing process, resulting in relatively poor quality.

 

Touch Test: Check the fit and strength of the edge sealing

Smooth and Burr-Free Feel: High-quality edge sealing has a smooth surface with rounded edges, free of jagged edges, burrs, or chipping. You can lightly scratch the surface with your fingernail to test for easy scratching.

Tight Fit Without Gaps: Gently press the edge of the edge sealing with your finger to check for looseness, lifting, or hollow areas. A feeler gauge can also be used to check the gap width; the standard requirement is ≤0.1mm.

Smooth Corner Finish: The edge sealing should seamlessly connect at right angles or curved corners, with no obvious seams or cracks. Laser edge sealing or PUR edge sealing performs better at corners.
