How To Maintain Solid Wood Furniture For Greater Durability?

Feb 12, 2026

The durability of solid wood furniture depends not only on the material itself but also on proper daily care. Mastering core techniques such as moisture prevention, sun protection, scratch prevention, and regular maintenance will allow the furniture to maintain its luster and structural stability for a long time, truly achieving "the more you use it, the better it becomes."

Control Environmental Temperature and Humidity to Prevent Cracking and Warping
Wood "breathes" with changes in environmental humidity. Excessive humidity can cause it to expand and mold, while insufficient humidity can lead to cracking and warping.

Ideal Environment: Temperature 18-24℃, Humidity 40%-60%

Northern Winters: Dry during the heating season; it is recommended to use a humidifier and avoid placing furniture near radiators (distance ≥50cm).

Southern Rainy Season: Use a dehumidifier or air conditioner with the dehumidification function, and regularly open windows for ventilation to prevent the wood from absorbing moisture and expanding.

Avoid Direct Sunlight and High Temperatures
Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the wood to fade, the paint to age, and even fine cracks to appear.

Place furniture away from direct sunlight near windows, or use curtains or blinds to block the sun. Always use a heat-resistant mat when using a dining table; direct contact with hot cookware can cause the paint to blister and discolor. Avoid placing radiators, heaters, or other heat sources directly on furniture.
